Ngā Motu Whakahī

Our Story and Purpose

Empowering Māori and Pacific Researchers

Ngā Motu Whakahī is a research mentoring initiative in the Faculty of Science, dedicated to supporting the growth of Māori and Pacific research leaders. Established in 2021, the programme was created to provide meaningful pathways into research through mentoring, skill-building, and opportunities across all career stages—from undergraduate students to early career researchers. Rooted in a commitment to equity and inspired by the University’s indigenising frameworks, Ngā Motu Whakahī envisions a thriving community of Māori and Pacific scholars who feel valued, connected, and empowered in their research journeys.
